- There are eleven individual categories: Men's A, Women's A, Junior Men, Junior Women (new for 2004), Espoirs Men, Espoirs Women, Master's Men 35+, Master's Women 35+, Master's Men 45+, Women's B, and Men's B.
- Elite Men, Elite Women, Master Men 35+, Junior Men, Junior Women, Men's B wear leader's jersey every week and medals to the top 3 at end of the season.
- Current Elite Men and Elite Women receive free entry as MAC leader.
- Winners of the following categories will receive a jersey at the end of the season (and medals to top 3): Espoir Women, Espoir Men, Masters Women 35+, Masters Men 45+, Women's B.
- Winning team gets MAC Championship Cup for 1 year.
- 2nd and 3rd place teams get medals.
- Men's C race is still part of every MAC event but will not be scored as a separate category for standings for 2004.
- (New for 2004) The following categories will be ranked but will not have a separate point system or a separate race (important for UCI regulations).
- Espoirs (Men and Women) - race in elite events
Masters Women 35+ - race in Women's Elite
Junior Women - race in Womens B events
- Notations such as E, J and 35+ will be used in the standings to denote qualification for these categories.
- Women who wish to be ranked in the Masters 35+ category must race with the Elite Women. Women who race in the Womens B category will not score masters points.
- Junior women who wish to be ranked as a Junior must race with the Womens B category.
- Only those categories will be scored at Mid-Atlantic Cyclo-cross Championship Series races (MAC Cup races). THE MAC CATEGORIES SCORED HAVE NO BEARING ON THE PRIZES PAID BY THE PROMOTERS.
- All MAC races will have the same point structure for 2004. There is no longer a difference between a Tier I and Tier II race
- Men's and Women's B. The overall winner from the previous year will not be eligible for 'B' points. An exception to this rule will be allowed in the event that the previous year's winner of a B category qualifies as a junior.
- In order to discourage sandbagging, there should be no cash prizes for B races.
- Multiple category rule. If a rider qualifies for two categories within one race, that rider can receive individual points in each MAC category. Only the higher point total for that rider will count towards the team scoring. An example of a situation where a rider could score in two categories in the same race: Master's Men 35+ and Master's Men 45+.
- Participation (New Age Rules): It is the intent of the MAC series to conform with UCI regulation 5.1.001 which reads "The category to which the license holder belongs on January 1 of the civil year following will be used for his participation in events for the whole season." Therefore, for the 2004 MAC season, the racing age for all categories will be based upon the rider's age on December 31, 2005 (not 2004).
- MAC standings will be updated based upon race results. Race results are posted at the race and are subject to the normal 15 minute protest period. If the MAC standings are important to you, it is incumbent upon you to notice and have any errors corrected by the race officials during the protest period. I do not change race results.
